Controlled Breathing Technique-1

CONTROLLED BREATHING (PRANAYAMA) TECHNIQUE 'ONE'

This Pranayama technique has 3 units in total - each unit has 3 rounds - and each round has 5 steps each. The first unit is "Half the Time Holding" unit, the second is "Equal Time Holding" unit, and the third is "Maximum Time Holding" unit.

Anger, hatred, emotional tension, excitement, and jealousy decreases and peace increases in the first stage (step 1 and 2); thoughts are controlled in the stage two (step 3 and 4); and good concentration & hemoglobin shall be developed by the time practice reaches the final step.

In the step one, sitting in a comfortable position, males are ought to block their left nostril with the forefinger, while females block their right nostril, as gently as possible with no effort, and start inhaling (males from right nostril and females from left nostril) from the other nostril as slowly as, and as longer as possible. Once you complete inhaling (from respective nostril), hold your breath for half the inhalation ( Ι ) time. Then, slowly exhale from the same nostril within the same duration of time that of the inhalation and hold the breath again for half the time of exhalation (ΙΙ).

Now, in the second step, males are ought to block the right nostril and the females the left nostril. From the other unblocked nostril practice breathing as described in the step one (inhale, hold the breath for half the time, exhale from the same nostril and hold the breath again for half the time).

Step three, essentially remains as step one except for in this step one has to exhale from the opposite nostril of the inhalation (breath holding time remains same as in step one i.e., half the time of the inhalation or the exhalation)

Step four, essentially remains as step two except for in this step one has to exhale from the opposite nostril of the inhalation (breath holding time remains same as in step two i.e., half the time of the inhalation or the exhalation).

Finally, in the fifth step one should inhale from both the nostrils, hold the breath for half the time of inhalation, and exhale from both the nostrils.

When all the five steps are successfully completed, it is considered as completion of a round. One has to repeat all the five steps for three times (three rounds) which is considered as a unit.

Anger, hatred, emotional tension, excitement, and jealousy decreases and peace increases in the first stage (step 1 and 2); thoughts are controlled in the stage two (step 3 and 4); and good concentration & hemoglobin shall be developed by the time practice reaches the final step.

In the second unit, the five steps in a round remain the same except for the breath holding time will be same as that of inhalation or exhalation (unlike half the time in the first unit).

Finally, in the third unit, the breath holding time should be greater than that of inhalation or exhalation, and should gradually increase depending on patience and capacity of practice. Controlled Breathing is labeled as "complete" when one practices all the three units as described above, and considered as "successfully complete" when even the person sitting beside the person practicing cannot hear the sound created by her/his breathing practice, meaning the practice must be noiseless. When the practice deviates from the normal procedure, negative results cannot be ruled out.

NOTE: When the practice deviates from the normal procedure, negative results cannot be ruled out.
